讲座内容简介:
The effective business process management is critical to the success of a company. But business processes are normally described in natural languages thus cannot be easily validated or optimized, and implemented by human beings who are error-prone and can hardly handle the complexities of today"s competitive market economy.
In this seminar we introduce the on-going process in the United States of using the standardized industry technologies, including Business Process Modeling (BPM) and Business Process Execution Language (BPEL), to automate the management of complex businesses or organizations. The business processes are first specified in a formal language thus can be analyzed for their validity and efficiency; and optimization tools can be used to further streamline the business processes. A business process execution engine can then execute the formal business process specifications and coordinate the related managers and information systems. For example, an insurance claim could be automatically forwarded through different managers’ computer to-do lists for processing according to the management/business policies, and the government’s changing auditing policies, which have become significant operating overheads, could be easily implemented. For manufacturing companies that have different models of the same product in the production lines at the same time, the efficient management of the production processes is almost impossible without the latest business process modeling and management technologies.
This seminar covers an interdisciplinary topic that is important to both management and IT professionals. Since business process modeling and management is still young, it provides rich research opportunities for its further perfection.
